Update on an ongoing documentary! Raising an additional $25,797 now that it is a feature film 🎉

I’m writing with an update on LYNDA and an ask for your support!

The movie is going extremely well, and what I previously thought would be a short film has turned into a 60-minute movie, which will be my first feature film. We’ve tweaked the name of the film as well. Formerly Make Use of Suffering, the film is now called “Lynda”. Simple and to the point (I’m always changing the names of things up until the end…).

We’ve edited close to a half hour of the movie, but we need more support to finish… We’ve raised over $8,339 towards our goal of $34,188, which helps cover post-production, color-corrections, sound mix and score. For more information, you can visit the project page here.

Films like this need support to make it happen. We’ve set up a fiscal sponsor through the Southern Documentary Fund where we can accept tax deductible donations. As the holidays approach, our team would be very grateful if you made a tax-deductible donation to our project. The funds are all spent on the costs, mostly labor and equipment, required to produce a film like this.

Over the past two years, I’ve spent hundreds of hours with Lynda and her family in Sparta, North Carolina. We have become close friends and have been working together to show her story. We are at a pivotal moment in the film’s journey.  The story is developing extremely well. It will be a roughly 60-minute movie, and we are developing it as the pilot presentation of a limited series of hour-long portraits of extraordinary human resilience.

As some of you already know, I met Lynda through volunteer work we each do with restorative justice, and I saw in Lynda a story that is worth telling. The film is an observation of her creative process in the aftermath of trauma and a depiction of her quest for forgiveness. The life Lynda leads and the bond that forges between her and the man that killed her son contain inspirational messages about healing.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution and would like to see early cuts of the film, please reach out to me. The funds could be structured as an investment, if people are interested.. we intend to distribute the project as part of a limited series we are producing and believe we may be able to achieve a modest return.

Stay in touch!
